The dangers of sudden wind changes and how to spot them in METARs.
Wind Shear is a sudden, drastic change in wind speed and/or direction over a very small area. It is highly dangerous during take-off and landing.
It is indicated at the end of the report with the code WS.
Example: ... WS RWY 05L (Wind shear on Runway 05 Left).
If a severe WS is reported, pilots are prepared to execute a Go-Around and abort the landing.
